PAIN = sharp discomfort difficult to ignore (NOUN use)
- Yesterday I suddenly felt a lot of pain in my stomach. I was taken to hospital where they discovered I had appendicitis.
- I've got a pain IN my leg.
ACHE = duller/less strong discomfort but that continues for longer (NOUN use)
- I have a headache, a stomachache, a backache, heartache*
* emotional pain
HURT = discomfort caused by something outside of yourself (VERB+ADJECTIVE use)
- She was hurt in the car accident.
- My leg hurts.
SICK = feeling as if you are going to vomit
- I am feeling sick
= not go to work because felling unwell (to be off sick)
- I have been off sick for 2 weeks.
ILL = any other feeling of being unwell or suffering from an illness..
